As the nation is entering around two months spent in quarantine to prevent the spread of COVID-19, people are adjusting and finding creative ways to still have fun. The dance music community has been making the best of the situation through festival and artist live streams, and many of them benefit COVID-19 relief programs such as Recording Academy MusiCares. We’ve rounded up our picks for this week’s virtual music festivals and artist performances to keep you grooving at home. We’ve also compiled a list of some of our favorite digital sets that have already happened but are worth re-watching. Venues, bars and clubs may be closed right now, but dancing is not canceled. Acclaimed UK trance group Above & Beyond will have two virtual sets this week. On Wednesday at 1 PM ET, fans can stream Classic A&B Sets Recreated: Above & Beyond's Debut Set, Tokyo 2001. Tony McGuinness, who is one-third of the renowned group, will also perform a Deep Set this Sunday at 2 PM ET.
Deep house producer Lane 8 will host a live stream performance on his Twitch on May 6 at 2 PM ET.
Transport yourself to Miami’s famed Club Space on May 7 at 4 PM ET for a live streamed performance by Danny Daze. The virtual event will be hosted on Club Space’s YouTube channel, where you can also find previous live streams to keep you dancing.
Critically-acclaimed producer Mr. Carmack will stream Lost Resort With Mr. Carmack & Channel Tres on Thursday at 3 PM ET. Register for the digital event here.
Dance to Seven Lions’ emotive bass music via his Twitch on Friday at 10:30 PM ET.
Porter Robinson’s festival, Second Sky, will take place digitally this Saturday. The lineup will boast performances by artists such as G Jones, Jai Wolf, Madeon and, of course, Porter himself. BTSM will host a virtual version of their Futuristic Thriller Tour on May 9 beginning at 9 PM ET. Stream the “visually immersive cyberpunk world” on their Kannibalen Records YouTube channel.
A digital rendition of Global Dance Festival will take place May 9-10. The live streamed festival will feature performances by acclaimed artists such as Funtcase, Kendoll and Sullivan King. The online festival will be raising money for Direct Relief, and all donations will benefit the organization. RSVP here.
Carl Cox's imprint, Awesome Soundwave, will host a live stream in partnership with Beatport on May 9. The event will feature virtual performances by artists such as Christopher Coe + Ehsan Gelsi, Digital Afrika, Mat Playford, Giorgia Angiuli and An On Bast. Watch the digital festival, which will be raising money for Crisis Kitchen Bali, on Facebook, YouTube, Twitch or the label’s website.
The Welsh DJ and producer will perform on Twitch on May 10 at 1 PM ET for Renaissance Engage, which is a recurring event presented by Renaissance and Redpill VR. Sasha’s performance will mark the third and final installment of the series, which has been raising money for Doctors Without Borders.
